Splish, Splash, I Like Taking A Bath!

Hi Everyone,

Sometimes we get dirty. By playing, hanging out with friends, or even rolling around outside.

But, there's times when we have to get clean too.

So this week, I thought I'd talk about getting a bath.

When our Mom's and Dad's give us baths, we may think of it as not the funniest of times. You may even be afraid. But, don't be!

It's actually a really good time for them to check us for lumps and bumps that might be a problem. It's also a great chance to be checked for fleas and ticks.

So here's some tips you might want to tell your family about before they bathe you:

  • Before your bath, a good brushing really makes a difference. Any tangles or mats should be removed too.

  • Make sure a good quality shampoo is used. Not a shampoo for humans. This can cause you to be really itchy and even cause other problems.

  • Starting on your back, the shampoo should be applied and massaged in with water to create light suds. Make sure that the top of your head, under your neck, face and ear flaps are washed too. But, be careful that the suds don't get in your eyes.

  • After your shampoo, you need to be rinsed until the water runs clear. If you're being bathed in a medicated shampoo, it's important that the shampoo be left on for up to five minutes before rinsing. This really helps if you have skin problems.

  • Now it's time for a towel dry and most likely a good shake from you!  And if it's not too scary, a blow dryer can be used. But, set on the lowest temperature setting.

A bath not only makes you feel good, but it can become a special time shared with your family and even friends!

By now you should be feeling fresh, clean and hopefully relaxed! So snuggle up to your loved ones and in your cozy bed. And enjoy that wonderful clean feeling.

Unfortunately, if you're like me, it won't last long...
