Wow! Did I meet someone who's really cool this week!
"Nugget" is my new Bunny friend! And I like her a lot!
Because "Nugget" was rescued by Kaemi, one of our Animal Assistants, I wanted to take a minute and talk about all the homeless Bunnies out there. Especially because "Nugget" was probably a Easter gift at one time.

When I first met "Nugget" I was a little scared. I wasn't really sure what she was about. But then, after a few minutes, we were best friends. Bunnies are very sweet and loving creatures and they need special care.
Easter is a happy time to hunt for eggs and it invokes images of cute animals. Unfortunately, it's not always a happy time for live bunnies who are sometimes bought as a Easter "presents". Unfortunately, not all of these Bunnies are cared for properly or even kept after the Holiday.
All animals, especially young ones, need to be taken care of properly. They just can't be placed in a cage and given food and water every now and then in order for them to live happy and healthy lives. Kaemi takes "Nugget" out of her cage regularly to hop and run around. Exercise is very important for all of us.
Just like adopting a dog or a cat is a lifetime commitment. They don't have a short life span. A Rabbit can live up to 12 years. So it's really something to think about.
If you would truly like to help an animal, please consider adoption. Animal shelters and rescue groups are overwhelmed with Rabbits and other "Holiday pets" after Easter.
