Fabulos Finches!

I love to peek into the aviary and check out the finches. Our Aviary has been a part of our Hospital since 1966!

Most of the birds you see are Zebra Finches. The all white birds are color variations, but still Zebras.

We're able to tell the boys and the girls apart by their markings. Except for the white ones. It's kinda tough to tell them apart.

The males are brighter in color and they have orange cheeks! Pretty cute, huh? The females have less color. But, I still think they're pretty.

Finches are only happy when they have a mate. So we always make sure that there is an even number of males and females so everyone has the chance to fall in love.

They're mating season is in the Spring. And it's so cute to see the babies popping their little heads out of the nests and hanging around together on the branches!

Finches can live up to 15 years! The moss you see, hanging from the branches, is used by the finches to make nests for their babies.

They also need plenty of fresh water every day and they LOVE to take baths!

Finches also eat a mixture of seeds which are high in proteins and carbohydrates. This makes them healthy and happy. The finches also love it when we give them fresh greens and oranges!

So come on into the Hospital and check out our awesome aviary and the finches. Watching them fly around, and having a good time, is super fun.

They always make our day and I'm sure they'll make yours too!
